DT-HATS, a Doctoral Network (DN) supported by the European Union’s Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, addresses one of the biggest decarbonisation challenges in Europe: heavy-duty transport, which is responsible for around 30% of the sector’s CO₂ emissions. The project explores how green hydrogen (H₂) and ammonia (NH₃) can be combined to deliver technically viable and economically attractive pathways to cleaner long-haul mobility.
DT-HATS brings together advanced research and structured training to prepare a new generation of specialists. Recruited doctoral candidates will generate new knowledge on:
Hydrogen and ammonia flow and reaction processes in transport powertrains
Efficient integration and utilisation within emerging hydrogen ecosystems
In doing so, DT-HATS will help accelerate the transition towards low-carbon heavy-duty transport through science-based solutions and skilled talent development.
Heavy-duty transport is one of the hardest sectors to decarbonise. DT-HATS helps accelerate the shift to cleaner mobility by building the scientific evidence and digital tools needed to use green hydrogen and ammonia effectively in future powertrains.
